ALMS DRIVERS TO TEACH ENVIRONMENTALLY EFFICIENT DRIVING

Miami, Fla. (March 9, 2011) - As the best sports car drivers in the world head to the 59th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Fresh from Florida on March 19, three will make a preliminary stop in Miami on March 11-12, to educate consumers on efficient driving techniques.

Prior to taking on the grueling 12-hour season opener for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila PatrĂ³n, sports car racing stars Allan McNish (Audi Sport Team Joest) and Gunnar Jeannette (CORE autosport) will participate Friday and Saturday in the Go Green Auto Rally (GGAR) at Miami Sailing Week.

The drivers will convene at City Hall not only to instruct participants on how to use driving techniques that will help them drive their own cars more efficiently, but they will also drive the GGAR course to set a benchmark score for attendees.

Each participant will be equipped with a GGAR smartphone application that collects performance data from the trip. Trophies and prizes (Apple products or fuel cards) will be presented to the participants who set the best scores and demonstrate the most improvement

"If you know the basic parameters of a car (weight and horsepower), using the GPS and accelerometers on a smartphone, you can calculate the fuel usage and greenhouse gas emissions in real time," said Jean Paul Libert, Go Green Auto Rally Founder. "Our application goes even further.  It advises drivers in real time and can show them on a map exactly where and how they went wrong. In the rally, we use this information to calculate score, comparing them against all the other drivers on the same route. It's not a race. It's a race to the future. Professional race car drivers use many of these same efficiency techniques in endurance racing."

The American Le Mans Series, regarded as the Global Leader in Green Racing, is an official partner with the Go Green Auto Rally, an event that instructs and educates consumers about how to drive their own cars more efficiently for better fuel mileage and with less carbon emissions. All cars in the ALMS compete using one of five approved alternative fuels and/or energy sources: clean diesel, cellulosic E85, E10, isobutanol and electric hybrid.

McNish is regarded as one of the greatest sports car driver in the world. He has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, the 12 Hours of Sebring three times and is a three-time ALMS LMP1 champion with Audi. Jeannette was the youngest driver to ever complete the 24 Hours of Le Mans at age 18. Last year, he finished second in the LMPC class driving a prototype using biodegradable engine oil (G-OIL) made of animal fat.
